Role Overview:

Our Case Assistant position supports the BRG Corporate Finance practice, which provides financial and operational advisory services to companies across the corporate lifecycle.

The position is focused primarily on supporting the Turnaround & Restructuring and Creditor Rights practice within Corporate Finance with regards to case administration and specifically, the preparation of required filings to the bankruptcy courts relating to retention and compensation.

The ideal candidate is a professional who can prioritize and manage a multifaceted voluminous workload in a fast-paced, results-driven environment. The individual should be comfortable working with a team of experts and consultants as well as having the ability to work independently on projects from conception to completion. The Case Assistant should be a proficient problem solver with strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills. Candidates must be able to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations and handle confidential matters with discretion.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare engagement letters and retention documents compliant with BRG policies and practices as well as federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and court orders, as relevant.
  • Draft periodic applications for compensation to the courts, including review and editing of time and expense detail for federal and local bankruptcy rule compliance, clarity, consistency, and grammar.
  • Set up new matters in billing system, including preparation of conflict checks.
  • Coordinate and liaise with various corporate departments regarding retention and billing for all assigned matters.
  • Liaise with internal clients as a point-person for case administration inquiries.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of retention and compensation application templates and training materials.
  • Provide administrative and bookkeeping support for Trusteeships.
  • Provide additional practice activities support as required.
  • Display a high degree of discretion with sophisticated abilities to recognize and handle sensitive and highly confidential information in an appropriate and compliant manner.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of administrative support experience, preferably in a professional services setting such as consulting, legal or accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, exceptionally organized, and proven time management skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Facility in the application of standards and concepts across constantly changing scenarios.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve goals, multi-task and prioritize activities in a rapidly changing high-stress environment and be adaptable to various competing demands.
  • Forward-looking thinker who demonstrates the ability to anticipate needs, proactively solve problems and combines a willingness to take initiative with sound judgement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including corporate departments, experts, staff, and other external partners.
  • Resourceful team-player with the ability to self-motivate and work independently.
  • Demonstrated consistently positive approach along with the highest level of customer/client service and responsiveness.
  • Excellent verbal skills coupled with proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Flexibility in adjusting work schedule on occasion and willing to work overtime as needed.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, advanced skills or education is a plus.    
  • Familiarity with and ability to parse legal and regulatory language is strongly preferred.
  • Contract drafting capability is preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency preferred in MS Access.
